Know Your Woods
Oak

Oak
Oak is a timeless wood species from a tree symbolising strength and security. The wood is hard and durable, often used in furniture and wood flooring. Growing areas are found in many parts of the world.
Cherry
Padus serotina

Cherry
Wood from cherry trees was used for cogwheels in flour mills and its fruit was used for preserves and wines. The colourful appearance makes it one of the nicest wood floors in the Tarkett range. Besides the American species, European species are also available.
Ash
Fraxinus excelsior

Ash
Ash was often reffered to as the royal tree because it came into leaf last and shed its leaves first. It is a durable, lively wood species which is also used for shafts, sports equipment and stairs. Grows from Europe to Asia.
Maple
Acer Saccharum

Maple
For a long time the sweet sap of the maple has been drained off in order to make syrup and sugar. Canadian maple is very durable and hard and therefore also used for instruments and furniture. Besides North America, maple is found in Western and Eastern Europe.
Merbau
Intsia bijuga

Merbau
Merbau is often seen whenever an exotic touch is created. It is used for many different purposes, including furniture, windows, doors and ship building. The hardness of Merbau is remarkable. It can be found in southeast Asia, especially Indonesia and Malaysia.
Beech
Fagus sylvatica

Beech
In former times the fruity of the beech was used to feed animals. Today beech is highly appreciated as furniture wood as well as for wooden toys. Beech is quite hard and has a blond and harmonious character. It grows in Europe but American and Japanese types are also known.
Birch
Bétula verrucosa
