Maintenance
Having purchased your new carpet, it is natural to want to maintain it. We have put together a short guide to help with this.
It is very important that regular vacuum cleaning is carried out as soon as the carpet is installed two to three times a week – every day if possible, giving particular attention to areas in front of seating, and in high traffic areas, make a minimum of three passes in these areas.
One of the most effective cleaners for a twist or cut pile carpet is one with a strong suction and a revolving beater bar/brush. This will generally be an upright vacuum cleaner. This will not only remove surface dirt, but also opens up the pile to remove loosely embedded soiling.
An upright vacuum cleaner will also remove the excess fibres of a new carpet ensuring that these are not collected within the pile. The beater bar will also ensure that the pile is ‘lifted’ each time the carpet is maintained.
For loop-pile carpets a cylinder type vacuum cleaner is recommended as it does not have driven, rotating brushes that can cause ‘fuzzing’ of the surface. With most cylinder types, the brushes on the head may be retracted for cleaning carpet (and should anyway, only be used for hard floors). It is recommended that consumers use a cleaner with high suction power (determined by wattage of motor) and with a large head so that a greater surface area may be covered more easily.
Sustainability
At Cormar Carpets, we believe that sustainability is not just a passing trend but the cornerstone of responsible business practices. For us, sustainability means planting the seeds of a thriving planet for future generations to inherit and enjoy.
What have Cormar achieved on their sustainability journey so far?
- We have invested £750,000 so far this year renewing our fleet to reduce our CO2 emissions on the road
- Today at least 68% of all our waste is recycled across all 3 sites
- Switched our cutting sample envelopes to use 100% recyclable paper made from Eucalyptus fibres
- We have installed LED lights across all our production and distribution sites reducing the amount of energy used
- Patron members of Carpet Recycling UK since 2008
What's next on our journey?
- Reduce our energy usage by 30%
- Identify a renewable source of energy to power parts of our manufacturing plants
- Implement this source of renewable energy to power our tufting machines
- Achieve net zero at all of our manufacturing sites
- Continue to reduce our CO2 emissions on the road by further investing in our fleet
- Through our recycling partners (such as Innovate Recycle) provide our retailers and customers the ability to send their carpet for recycling
- We are investigating ways with one of our partners to recycle our latex waste into fuel for waste energy
- We are working with several universities to find ways to recycle excess carpet fibre from our manufacturing process
