Applications and Practical Uses
LVP flooring is a versatile option suitable for nearly any space in the home or workplace. Its water-resistant qualities make it a perfect fit for kitchens & bathrooms (take a look at our kitchen vinyl flooring or bathroom vinyl flooring) and laundry rooms, while its comfort and durability are ideal for living rooms, bedrooms, and entryways. With commercial spaces, perhaps if you’re after office flooring or shop flooring, vinyl plank flooring offers a stylish yet durable solution that can handle high foot traffic.
A major benefit of vinyl floor planks is the ease of installation. Whether you prefer LVP flooring that clicks together or is glued down, these planks are straightforward to install, making them ideal for DIY projects or professional installations. With a hassle-free, fast setup, you can save both time and money with vinyl flooring planks.
Click-lock vs glue-down vinyl plank
Vinyl plank flooring comes in two installation formats: click-lock and glue-down. Click-lock planks (often sold as SPC click or LVT click) snap together at the edges and float over an underlay - you can lift and replace an individual plank, and most DIYers can install a click-lock room in a weekend. Click is the right choice for suspended timber floors and anywhere you want to keep the existing floor intact underneath. Glue-down planks are bonded directly to the subfloor with a dedicated vinyl adhesive. The fit is tighter, the result feels more solid underfoot, and glue-down handles heavy wheeled traffic better - but installation is slower and any subfloor unevenness will telegraph through. Choose glue-down for commercial settings, wet zones that will see heavy use, or solid concrete subfloors in good condition.
Whichever format you choose, leave a 5-10mm perimeter expansion gap around the room. Vinyl plank expands and contracts with temperature, and pinning it tight against a wall or skirting is the single most common cause of lifting joints.
Benefits of Vinyl Plank Flooring
Vinyl plank flooring provides a host of advantages, making it a preferred choice for many homeowners and businesses alike. One of its most popular features is its realistic appearances that are akin to wood flooring and more, adding charm and warmth to a room. Beyond aesthetics, vinyl floor planks are known for their durability, resisting scratches, stains, and everyday wear and tear, making them suitable for high-traffic areas. Additionally, there are many water-resistant options, which means they can be used in areas prone to moisture without the worry of warping or damage. The low-maintenance nature of plank vinyl flooring ensures you’ll enjoy a long-lasting, attractive floor with minimal upkeep - perfect for your renovation project.
Is vinyl plank flooring waterproof?
Yes. Vinyl plank is fully waterproof because the core and wear layer are solid PVC with no organic content to absorb moisture. Click-lock joints handle domestic splashes without issue; for bathrooms and wet rooms a glue-down vinyl plank or welded sheet vinyl gives you the most secure seal at the seams.
